dental implant treatment information
Prior To Your Appointment
We will prescribe you antibiotics to be taken prior to your dental implant treatment. This is normally taken 1 hour before your appointment time.
You may wish to take pain relief prior to treatment, but this is often not necessary.
Dental Implant placement is oral surgery and so we recommend that you attend your appointment having eaten a moderate meal so that you do not feel faint during and after your appointment.
As per practice policy, we will request a deposit or fee for the treatment in advance of the appointment. This is often to secure the appointment, ensure the implant surgeon is paid on time, and often avoid delays at reception when patients may prefer to go straight home after treatment.
During Your Appointment
Our dental implant team will go over the pros and cons of implant treatment again with you, and we will confirm the benefits of the treatment. We will also discuss our approach to your treatment with you.
Our clinical team is very experienced and if you are nervous or worried about treatment can also provide IV sedation to help reduce your anxiety. If you think you would like this, please do tell us in advance, as we often ask for a family member or trusted friend to accompany you home. You cannot drive for 24 hours after sedation.
We will ask you to sign some paperwork consenting to the treatment.
After Your Treatment
Depending on the treatment provided, we may advise a further course of antibiotics, mouthwash, and pain relief to help your recovery after treatment. In most cases, you should be fine to return to work the following day. You should brush your teeth carefully for the next few days.
There may be some small bruising and swelling, but this will subside after a few days.
If required we ask you to return to have any stitches removed.
Follow any advice we provide, and especially avoid smoking and drinking alcohol for 48 hours after your treatment.
If you have any discomfort or concerns then please contact the practice via email or telephone.
